S C R I B B L E R

This shit is addictive.  Seriously, if you want an excuse to to waste some time and feel like your practicing your art than this is the place for you.  You sketch something, as complex or as simple as you want, and then the flash program generates lines based on your work.  A little trial and error and you wind up with some nifty stuff.  Oekaki lovers will definately enjoy this.

I’ve updated the comic with page four, go check it out.  I promise the next one will start with an actual STORY, which could be interesting (I’m just not good with one liners…)

Photo update

Tail in the gas tank? My Photos on Face Book

I’ve updated my Face book account, if anyone cares, with a few gems. It took me a while to get my camera working, even longer to find the damn cord.

resurgere – stocktafic

From resurgere's resurgere on deviantART

While wasting time on deviantART you can find a lot of crap. Like the largest collection of ridiculously fantasized yaoi this side of the Pacific (but without the fun of the nudity) along with an equally large collection of angsty art photography that invokes (for me anyways) all the drama of a high school theatrical production. However, as the die-hards know, it’s worth wadding through the dung to find the sweet mulch underneath, and resurgere is just that. A gathering of photographers offering various collections of stock photos, it is a gorgeous resource that just begs to be used. They have everything from macaber, micro, textures, their delightful Borkr collection (not for the faint of heart as far as photomanips are concerned), and more. Frankly, if you can’t find something in their gallery that catches your fancy, than I’m done trying. Of course, make sure you know the rules before you start playing with their photos.

Getting things going

Shit, this is actually coming along nicely.  Only took me about a day to put this site together, and it’s soooo easy for my to tweak it at a later date without having to start from scratch. (sigh…..yes, yes I can deal with this).  To be honest this is my first time implementing a site driven by WordPress.  I’d tried Joomla and other CMSs but they all seemed like more trouble than they were worth.  So, yes, this is the WordPress plug–they said it was easy and it was.  Took me maybe an hour to find a template I liked and the css was easy to change.  Swapped out some images and bang, it’s my own site.  I’m sure I’ll change stuff (it’s like a sickness) but for now it definitely works for me.

Subtraction: This Way to the Web, Print Designers!

Subtraction: This Way to the Web, Print Designers!

A nice, succinct discussion on how web design differs from print, focusing more on the ideology behind the two “design mediums” rather than just the practical differences.

The prerequisite for doing something meaningful with any of these skills — HTML, CSS, Flash or whatever — is first embracing the medium as something different from print. Indeed, there’s no point in learning these skills unless as a print designer you’ve made a prior shift in your understanding of how design works in digital media. Specifically, come to grips with the fact that, on the Web, design is not a method for implementing narrative, as it is in print, but rather it’s a method for making behaviors possible.

Prolification is like Sex

Honestly, I haven’t been this prolific since high school. I went to university to become more creative and it sucked all that I had. Then I did horses and my reservoirs filled back up. I’ve got all kinds of stuff stacked up and more to dole out. First, check out the new Scruffy Comic (up to page three as of this post) and see what you think. Also, if you have any funny stories concerning your frosh years that you think might fit into the Scruffyverse, let me know.

I’ve also updated my Naruto doujinshi. We’re at chapter 7 and I’m half way through drawing chapter eight so maybe I’ll get in more than two chapters a year (*sighs* Four years of writter’s/artist’s block is the suck).

I’ve also added some new prints for sale, and I’m having all these original art urges that I’ve never experienced before, so I think there’ll be some more. Maybe some Scruffy pin-ups (you know you want one). Anyways, check them out:

And last but not least, a website design that might stick around. (HA!)
